Bolt Action
Manually-operated precision rifles — the traditional choice for accuracy at distance.
The **bolt-action rifle** is the traditional precision firearm: a manually-operated rifle with a rotating bolt, fed from an internal or detachable magazine, known for accuracy, simplicity, and durability.
For pure precision, bolt actions still lead semi-autos. A well-built bolt gun has fewer moving parts during the firing cycle, less harmonic disturbance, and tighter tolerances than any gas gun at the same price point. The majority of civilian precision rifle competition is shot with bolt actions, as is nearly all big-game hunting outside of specific AR-platform chambers.
The modern civilian landscape spans three broad categories: hunting rifles (Tikka T3x, Bergara B-14, Browning X-Bolt), entry-level precision (Ruger Precision Rifle, Bergara B-14 HMR), and premium chassis systems (Accuracy International, Masterpiece Arms, Vudoo). Any of them will out-shoot most of their shooters.
