**Pistol-caliber carbines (PCCs)** — 9mm and (less commonly) .45 ACP carbines built on AR-15 or AR-9 patterns — became a distinct competition division in USPSA in 2017 and in other disciplines shortly after. The appeal is straightforward: a carbine-length sight radius and stocked platform on pistol-caliber ammunition produces very fast hits at modest ranges. In USPSA, Steel Challenge, and 2-gun matches, PCC has become the fastest-growing division. Purpose-built competition PCCs — **Sig MPX**, **CMMG Resolute**, **JP GMR-15**, **Foxtrot Mike** — dominate the top scores; hobbyist-grade platforms like Ruger PC Carbines and Kel-Tec Sub-2000s remain perfectly capable at club levels. PCC is also an increasingly popular home-defense option, though the stocked-carbine-in-the-home-defense-role conversation usually goes back to 5.56 AR-15s for anyone who can tolerate the extra noise and blast indoors.
