Cartridge
6.5 Creedmoor
The reigning long-range competition cartridge. Exceptional ballistic coefficient, manageable recoil.
See tag in graph →**6.5 Creedmoor** is the cartridge that did more to democratize long-range shooting than any other round in the last two decades. Introduced by Hornady in 2007, it pairs high-BC 6.5mm projectiles with a short-action case designed specifically to feed from AR-10 magazines and modern bolt actions.
The appeal is clear: at 1,000 yards it outperforms .308 with less recoil, less muzzle blast, and less barrel wear than the magnum cartridges that used to be required at distance. It's friendly to learn on, hard on targets, and available everywhere.
It is not a hunting secret weapon — .308 still does everything it needs to at hunting distances — but for precision competition, steel at distance, and shooters who value hit probability over raw energy, the Creedmoor earned its reputation honestly.
