Smith & Wesson M&P

S&W's polymer-frame striker-fired family. America's closest answer to the Glock family.

The **Smith & Wesson M&P** ("Military & Police") is S&W's polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol family, introduced in 2005 to compete directly with the Glock lineup. The current generation is the **M&P M2.0**. The lineup covers the same ground as Glock's — full-size, compact, subcompact, and single-stack — in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Where the M&P line tends to win against the Glock line is grip ergonomics: interchangeable backstraps and a more neutral grip angle make it an easier fit for more hand sizes. For shooters who have shot Glocks and disliked the grip, the M&P is the natural next thing to try. For shooters who have shot neither, shoot both before buying.
