AR-10
The larger-frame AR chambered for .308-class cartridges and up.
The **AR-10** is the large-frame cousin of the AR-15, designed to handle .308-class cartridges and their magnums. Most modern AR-10s are chambered in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, or 6.5 PRC.
A critical thing new buyers learn quickly: "AR-10" is a colloquial term. There are two major non-interchangeable patterns — **DPMS high/low-profile** and the **Armalite pattern** — along with a few proprietary variants. Magazines, uppers, and parts do not cross between them. Know which pattern your rifle is before you buy anything.
AR-10s are heavier, louder, and more expensive to feed than AR-15s, but they deliver semi-auto precision and stand-off at distances the smaller gun cannot reach. For the civilian shooter who wants one semi-auto rifle that will hunt medium game and reach steel past 600 yards, it's the natural answer.
